Orlando Bloom debuted in the year 1997 as a rent boy in the film Wilde. And just two days after his graduation at Guildhall, he took one of his most popular movie roles to date, Legolas from Lord of the Rings trilogy. This would not have happened if he got the role he auditioned for, the role of Faramir, who becomes part of the story only on the second part. The director of the Lord of the Rings had Bloom play the role of Legolas instead. Another unfortunate thing that could have ruined his role as Legolas is his accident during the filming. Thankfully, Bloom recovered soon enough for him to go on with the rest of the film.

The second movie that contributed to Orlando Bloom’s immense popularity is Black Hawk Down. In this film, Bloom played the role of Todd Blackburn. Though his role in Black Hawk Down may have been brief, it did not stop fans from noticing his looks and acting skills. After starring in these flicks, Bloom managed to be included in Teen People’s 25 Hottest Stars under the age of 25 list. Successively, he was also named as People magazine’s hottest bachelor in Hollywood for the year 2004.

Because of the incredible success of Lord of the Rings, he also received nominations from Screen Actors Guild Awards together with his co-actors. The cast continued to be nominees for three years until they were finally given the Best Ensemble Acting award officially on their third nomination in a row. Other than the SAGs, Bloom also received recognitions from other award giving bodies such as Hollywood Festival Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Empire Awards and European Film Awards.

His success did not stop with these blockbuster hits and overwhelming awards, for in the summer of 2003, he got hold of a role in another highly anticipated trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean, along with equally loved actors, Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp. As expected, the film rose to fame and garnered love and appreciation not just by the fans but also from critics. The release of the second and third installment also proved to be a success, making Bloom an even more popular actor.

Other than Pirates, LOTR and Black Hawk Down, Orlando Bloom also participated in other critically-acclaimed films. He became a part of the film, Troy, in the spring of 2004 where Bloom shared the limelight with other actors such as Brad Pitt, Peter O’Toole and Eric Bana.

He proved to be not just one of the most good looking actors in the industry but also one of the most talented as well as he played lead roles in Elizabethtown and Kingdom of Heaven both in the year 2005. He does not limit his roles in mainstream movies for he also took part in the production of an independent film, Haven, in which he was the executive producer. And quite obviously, Bloom has not done a single film that did not make it big. He can indeed turn any movie into a blockbuster hit.

My destination – Royal Zambezi Lodge – lies perched on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi Valley, which is part of the Great Rift Valley of Africa. This stunning, unspoilt area is the perfect place to chill out yet it’s only 30 minutes by light aircraft from bustling Lusaka. And the lodge is only 3 km from the Lower Zambezi National Park, which is teaming with game. With the mighty river stretching out in front, the bush and the backdrop of the escarpment behind, the setting is perfect for a relaxing few days in the bush.

Accommodation is in super luxury “tents” on the banks of the river, where the dawn and the sunrise are your wake up call each morning. The 8 rooms and 4 suites are very private, being surrounded by bush, so there’s no need to use the blinds, and an uninterrupted picture of sunrise over the Zambezi greets you every morning.

The suites are the last word in ultra luxury. Here you get a private plunge pool, outdoor bath and shower (as well as an enormous indoor bathroom en suite) and a sala overlooking the river. A sala is a secluded “gazebo” with a day bed – perfect for afternoon naps.

This destination is miles from “civilisation” as we know it – there are no roads, cars, telephones, cellphones – nothing but the sheer beauty of the African bush. The silence is broken only by hippos grunting, birds singing and, if you are lucky, the sound of hyena and lion in the night.

Whilst this destination is the ultimate in luxury chill-outs, there are many activities from which to choose – game drives and walks, fishing for the fighting Tiger Fish, boating and canoeing. There’s also a wonderful spa where you can be spoilt rotten with massages and beauty treatments.

The staff are incredibly good – charming, friendly, experienced and willing. And the food is excellent too. All in all this very exclusive hideaway will introduce you in the nicest possible way to the “real” Africa. Such luxury comes at a price but, for a once in a lifetime experience of unspoilt Africa, this is definitely the place to indulge yourself.

British Airways conveniently fly from London direct to Lusaka three times a week, and Lusaka is also easily accessible from Johannesburg and Nairobi. So it’s very easy for you to experience a safari in Zambia for yourself!

You might be confused in the Stars Wars movies that have been a big hit in the big screen. The history of star wars movies can provide you how the hit movie started and made it to one of the most top grossing film in the movie industry. This modern phenomenon that revolved around the life story of Luke Skywalker and Anakin Skywalker has greatly influenced the movie perception of the western world. The history of stars wars could be date back with the textbook written for Anakin Skywalker’s rise to being a Jedi, to his fall, love interest and his coming back to power again.

George Lucas, the one responsible for the creation of Stars wars has written a basic story about Anakin Skywalker. The story was divided into trilogies for it was written in a very long manner. Lucas initially offered the story of the movie to Universal Studios but was rejected thinking the story was ridiculous. 20th Century Fox accepted the movie and released the first original trilogy in 1977 which became an instant hit. The worldwide phenomenon Stars Wars got spread like a popular culture among movie viewers and critics. The history of star wars movies tells us how the movie was a culture happening which was immediately followed by two other sequels in an interval of every three years.

The history of star wars movies would tell that the an episode entitled A new Hope which was shown in the theaters in May, 1977 was a big sensation in North America and accumulated hundreds of million dollars in its showing day in terms of its ticket sales. The next sequel released in 1980, The Empire Strike Back had a total cost of more than $30 million. But despite the overrun of the high cost, the film itself was able to gross a total of $220 million, being recognized as one of the top grossing films of all time.

George Lucas announced in May 1996 that it has already signed an agreement with Pepsico to film the new prequel trilogies, which involves setting the story years before the original trilogy. The years that follow this announcement marked the coming back of the Star War movies in theaters. The history of star wars movies dates back during the post-1978 when it was such a big hit and received so much appreciation from the viewing public. People used to wait in line to go see star wars movies. Even recently during the release of the new movies people would go wait for hours just to get a good seat and make sure the tickets were not sold out.

The history of star wars movies from the time George Lucas is still conceptualizing the story features a futuristic effect where the main characters are concerned with Jedi’s, knights, princesses and creatures outside the galaxy. By the year 1997, Lucas released special edition versions of Star Wars movies which was edited and improved with the new technology in video formatting. After two decades, the prequel trilogy continued the legacy of the original trilogy; the Phantom Menace was released on May 19, 1999; Attack of the clones on May 16, 2002 and the Revenge of the Sith which was released on May 19, 2005.

Bob asked me, “Would you drive me to a rock concert at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, California? I’ll pay for the gas and buy you a ticket to the concert if you’ll take me.”

“Sure”, I replied, “Who’s playing?”

“It’s a really far out guy named Jimi Hendrix. He’s the most bitchin dude I’ve ever heard. His group is called The Jimi Hendrix Experience.”

“I’ve never heard of him, but that’s okay I always like to see the latest rock-and-roll. I’ll need to get a map to figure out how to drive there. That’s a really long drive and will probably take about two hours. ”

Bob was ecstatic; “Far out, I will score the tickets right away. Later.”

That week I spoke to a friend of mine named Clay and told him, “I’m going to be taking my friend Bob to a concert out in San Bernardino to see some guy named Jimi Hendrix.”

Clay exploded with, “You’ve got to take me with you. I just love Jimi Hendrix’s righteous music. I’ll buy a ticket and help pay for the gas if you will take me?”

“Solid,” I replied, “I always like going to a concert with a lot of people. So get your ticket and meet at my house this Saturday. I’m sure Bob will have no problems about your jamming with us.”

“I’m stoked. Catch you on Saturday,” Clay said.

The three of us gathered at my house early that Saturday afternoon, Bob had brought his 35 mm camera to record the event. We set out for our rock concert journey in my 1967 lime green Ford Mustang. Bob kept stating over and over, “Hendrix has just got to play my favorite song “Purple Haze” it’s the grooviest song I’ve ever heard. I can’t wait for you to be able to hear that song.”

Many hippies with their long hair, beads, feathers, leather and non-conformist attitude of peace and love, were gathered outside the Swing Auditorium, which looked like a high school gymnasium building. The three of us were far from being hippies; we were middle class not willing to live the free lifestyle, usually drug laden, that so many flower children were involved in. It was a typical rock concert to me except it was taking place in a very out of the way location; I was use to concerts taking place in Hollywood. My main concern at that moment was remembering where the car was parked so we could find it quickly after the concert.

The three of us entered the auditorium and were disheartened to see that it was open seating. There were no assigned seats so it was a free-for-all on where you sat. I really hated this type of concert seating because if you got up to go to the bathroom you would lose your seat or your place in the crowd. The auditorium had space for about 1000 people. Bob said, “I want to get as close to the stage as possible. Let’s make a beeline to the front of the stage.” I looked up and noticed a poster hanging next to the stage. It was a picture of a young black man with crazy hair, looking very arrogant and sexy. I only liked rock-and-roll music so I was beginning to think that I was going to hear black soul music.

There were folding chairs surrounding the outer perimeter of the stage. Toward the front of the stage there was no chairs, it was just an open floor for people to stand on. Bob led the two of us to the very front of the stage, pushing and shoving whoever was in his path. I was glad that there were two young men with me so that I would not be beat up or hassled by the fans. I knew that mild hippies could go berserk without too much provocation from my previous experience of being attacked, trampled by fans, and beaten up by police at previous concerts. It was impossible for us to talk because of the loud noise of the crowd. We staked out our positions at the front of the stage.

The fire marshal came out and made an announcement, “This concert is going to be canceled due to the fire hazard of so many people unruly in this auditorium. If you don’t sit down immediately we will close down this concert.”

Suddenly this black man came on to the darkened stage and yelled into the microphone, “Shut the fuck up, I want to play.” The entire auditorium went silent and everyone sat down immediately. “Who was that?” I couldn’t see who it was because of the darkness on the stage; I had never heard anything like this being said to an audience before.

The fire marshal came back and said to the crowd,” OK because you’re all cooperating we will let this concert continue.”

The lights came on the stage; there were already musical instruments set up just waiting for the performers to bring them to life. The crowd started going crazy with excitement. The three of us were being pushed very hard into the wall of the stage. The stage was approximately five feet high and I felt like a tomato being squished against the stage, I couldn’t get any closer unless I was on the stage. I was slightly separated by a few feet from Bob and Clay, but they were still within eye contact, it reassured me to see their faces as any moment I could be pushed down or trampled by the body’s pushing me into the stage.

From offstage came these two white men with crazy Afro’s looking like tendrils reaching into the universe, one sat at the drums, the other picked up a bass guitar to play. The anxiety of the crowd increased when out came the same black man I had seen on the poster. “So this is Jimi Hendrix,” I thought to myself. He was wearing maroon colored velvet pants with an embroidered jacket, beautifully spaced out hair and carrying a white guitar. He was smiling and spoke to the crowd, “Good evening everybody, it’s really cool that you all shut up so I could play. I just want to groove with you this evening. So let me just, ah, get you experienced.” I recognized the voice as the one who had said earlier “Shut the fuck up I want to play”.

The moment Jimi strummed the first note of the guitar the audience went crazy with excitement and I realized I was not going to see a Motown soul artist. I maintained my place next to the stage as the audience was so entranced by the music they were no longer pushing and shoving. Jimi started playing a song called, “Fire”. The sounds emanating from his guitar were like a foreign language to me, mysterious, beautiful, different and dangerous. Jimi contorted his face with each chord movement; it was like seeing the chords even if you didn’t know them. The music was so loud it physically penetrated my body. It was as though I had become the instrument that he was playing. I was moving to each sound he made without any control of my body.

The next song he played changed my life forever; it was called “Purple Haze”, just like Bob had promised it was one of the greatest songs I had ever heard. During this number the time came for his solo, Jimi started playing the guitar with his teeth! Jimi didn’t miss a single chord, the music was perfect. Never had I seen anybody play the guitar with his teeth. I was mesmerized by this performance. Next he flung his guitar behind his back and continued to play, never missing a note, his face was ecstatic. I did not know any of his music so each song was a revelation to me. To my left I saw Bob clicking away on his camera-taking photograph after photograph.

Just when I thought I had seen everything Jimi surprised me further, during the song “Are You Experienced?” Jimi started his solo and went down on his knees with his guitar between his legs, moving it back and forth along his crotch, simulating masturbation. I had never seen anything like this in my life. I couldn’t believe what he was doing in front of the crowd of people. It was as though his own music sexually stimulated him. When Jimi had finished the masturbation simulation he stood up and went over to the large speakers with his guitar in front of him. Jimi started slamming his body and the guitar up against the speakers as though he was having sex with them, never missing a chord of music. The more intense the music became the faster and harder he slammed into the speakers, it was as though the music was both ecstasy and agony for Jimi.

My body continued to vibrate as Jimi played on for the next 45 minutes. I could not consciously think as the music played, every fiber of my brain was filled with music the likes of which it had never experienced before or since. There were moments in the music where I felt like I was falling backwards in time, and then Jimi would propel me forward into outer space. It became evident why the group was called “The Jimi Hendrix Experience”; there was no way you could listen to the music without experiencing your life differently from that point on.

When the concert was over Jimi said to the crowd, “It was really groovy tonight, I’m glad I was able to share my music. I wish you all peace and love.” When he exited the stage the entire auditorium went ballistic begging him to come back, which he did. His encore was the climax of the evening for me, as he played “The Star Spangled Banner” unlike any version I had ever heard before. I could just feel the bombs bursting in air and the bullets flying by, as the sounds emanated from his guitar. How this one man captured the sound of war in his guitar was amazing, the mark of a true genius.

Jimi blew kisses to the audience as he and his band exited for the last time. He left like he entered, smiling. This man seemed to truly love what he was doing at that moment. I was still feeling stunned by this experience when Bob and Clay joined me. They were just delirious about the music. As we were exiting the building there were vendors selling two different albums by Jimi Hendrix. I had to purchase the albums right then and there; I did not want to go home without being able to take a part of that experience with me.

My ears were still ringing from the vibrations of the music. The three of us were very quiet on the drive back home. We were just letting what had happened to us absorb into our beings; we each knew that we had been changed by this experience.

This point was brought home to me the next day. I took my two prized Jimi Hendrix albums to my girlfriend Donna’s house so she could hear the incredible masterful music I had just been enlightened by the night before. “You’re really going to like this musician. He is like nothing you have ever heard before. I can’t get over this concert,” I told her while placing the album on the record player.

She sat quietly through the first two songs before she exclaimed, “Turn that music off. It sounds like Martian music.” She wanted her music to be simple and uncomplicated. I now resonated to a different vibration. I knew I was not the same young girl I had been before. My change was mirrored to me by my girlfriend’s reaction. My consciousness had been altered forever by the magic of Jimi Hendrix’s music.

On a visit to Botswana I discovered a real gem – the elephant experience at Stanley’s Camp in the Okavango. The Okavango, in the north west of Botswana, is a 6 000 square mile inland delta, the largest of its kind in the world. The delta’s lagoons and islands are home to huge numbers of wild animals, including elephant, hippo, lion, cheetah, buffalo, many species of antelope and abundant avian life.

The camp itself was simple but wonderful, with great staff and great food – all in the middle of the bush. However please not that this is camping in great style. I have laughed many times when I’ve told clients that they will be sleeping in a tent and they have said “We don’t do camping!”. Well, take it from me (and I’ve been to lots of camps in Botswana), these tents are absolute luxury – usually about 8 x 4 m (26 x 13 ft) in size, raised off the ground and with lovely en suite bathrooms plus private decks overlooking the bush. You get every modern convenience, and sleeping in a “tent” makes it all the more exciting when you hear lion roaring in the night!

This particular camp (and its sister camp, Baines) offers a unique experience – walking in the bush with three African elephants that are used to humans. The elephants’ owner, Doug, has been working and living with these giants for many years and not only are these jumbos obedient but love people too! The “Walk with the Elephants” interaction involves an approximately four hour gentle morning walk in the bush with the animals, whilst Doug tells you all about their habits and personalities, and demonstrates their features. You’ll feel their skin, tails and feet, look in their mouths to see their amazing molars and really get to know them. You also get to lead them by the trunk! But you don’t get to ride them, as that wouldn’t be natural.

It was an awesome experience for me and I believe that all travelers who are interested in wildlife would be “wild” for this opportunity. At the end of the walk you are treated to a lovely picnic lunch in the bush, whilst the elephants wander off to feed, supervised by Doug’s lovely wife, Sandy. You may ask “were you scared?” The answer is “yes! I was very frightened at first”, but with Doug’s calm love, deep trust and long experience with these great beasts, it became impossible not to relax and enjoy the absolute thrill of this incredible adventure. I left my new friends – Jabu, Marula and Thembi – feeling very privileged to have experienced such a close and emotional encounter with elephants.

The elephant walk every morning with their devoted “father” whether or not there are camp guests coming along. It’s not at all commercial and you really get to grips with elephants and their life in the Botswana bush.

Doug also runs courses for the local community schools, where the kids come camping for a few days (in very basic tents) and learn to appreciate elephants, wild animals in general and the importance of conservation in Botswana. By expanding awareness of eco-friendly tourism, this project makes a great contribution to the future well-being of the rural population.

Botswana is a marvelous destination and there are wonderful camps in different parts of the country that can make for a memorable safari. The cherry on the top is the close proximity to the spectacular Victoria Falls, a definite “must see” at least once in your life.

Maybe that was because the usual white background covers that appear on the paperback shelves in the UK didn’t appeal to me. Eventually I turned to one of his novels when I couldn’t find anything else that I wanted to read and became totally hooked on books written by this author.

David’s novels are complex tales involving FBI agents, US government, big business and all manner of criminals. So complex that I’m sure that I would lose the plot if I tried to write them, but even in their complexity I don’t lose the plot as a reader. I have plowed my way through most of David Baldacci’s current 17 novels and been gripped by the storylines of all of them.

Total Control is one of David’s early novels, first published at the beginning of 1997. The two main characters are lawyer Sydney Archer and veteran FBI agent Lee Sawyer. Sydney’s husband Jason works for the worlds leading technology conglomerate Triton Global and it is clear from the outset that he is involved in something that looks dodgy.

Sydney is the lawyer heading up a massive deal for her husbands company Triton Global, which is owned by the rich and nasty Nathan Gamble and his computer genius partner Quentin Rowe.

One morning Jason sets off to fly to LA, initially telling his wife that he is going there on business for his company. When he discovers that she is heading for a meeting with his bosses he changes his story and tells Sydney that he is actually going to Los Angeles for a job interview that would pay enough to enable Sydney to become the full time mother that she yearns for their 2 year old daughter Amy.

When Jason arrives at Dulles International airport he switches tickets in the toilets with a man who looks and dresses like him and flies to Seattle whilst the other man takes his place on the flight to LA. Part way through the flight the aeroplane goes down killing everybody, including the man who had taken Jason Archer’s place.

When FBI agent Lee Sawyer is called in to be the main investigator he quickly discovers that the plane was sabotaged. When proof is presented to Lee that Jason Archer was alive in Seattle after the plane crash Jason becomes the main suspect of the bombing, selling secrets of his company’s deal to a competitor and stealing millions of dollars from Triton Global.

Initially the FBI agent is unsure of whether or not Sydney is involved with her husband’s dodgy dealings. Sydney believing herself to be a widow holds back evidence because of the uncertainty about the man she loves, and from the fear that she will be accused of complicity and end up in jail instead of raising their daughter.

That is just a very small part of a massive plot with many twists and turns. The character of Sydney was built well; she is believable, likeable and very gutsy. I could feel an empathy with her sorrow at her believed loss, her fears for her daughter’s future and her need to find out for herself just what had happened.
Our initial encounter with Lee Sawyer is at the scene of the plane crash and his sorrow at the tragedy is apparent in every word written about it. His character is exactly what we would all like to see in law enforcement officers. Dogged, determined, honest, likeable and reliable but you wouldn’t want to oppose this no BS FBI agent.

I found Total Control to be a well-crafted thriller that held my attention right up until the end. As with all of David Baldacci’s novels there are lots of clues on the way but even if you think that you know the outcome he leaves little twists for the ending. I really enjoyed reading this book and unusual for me found myself on the edge of my seat during the last few chapters.

A great read that I highly recommend, Total Control is available in paperback, hard cover and audio cassette in book shops and on the Internet.

Fall Out Boy is an American alternative rock group that burst on the scene in 2005 with their major label release “From Under the Cork Tree.” Their follow up albums “Infinity on High” (released in 2007) and “Foile A Duex” (released in 2008) have been popular with fans and critics alike.

Fall Out Boy (FOB) takes their name from the television show The Simpsons. In a similar fashion, many of the titles of Fall Out Boy songs reference pop culture. They’ve been one of the first bands to widely use websites, social networking and other Internet technologies to spread information about their music and connect with fans. The release of their fifth studio album was preceded by a viral marketing campaign spread across several websites.

Fall Out Boy’s signature sound is an eclectic mix of styles. Wentz writes the majority of the lyrics for the songs while Stump handles the arrangement of the music. Stump has been tapped to help produce records and singles for many other bands and artists such as T.I, Gym Class Heroes, Cobra Starship, The Hush Sound, Lupe Fiasco The Roots.

Fall Out Boy members use personal blogs, You Tube and the social networking site FriendsorEnemies.com to stay connected with fans. Fall Out Boy pictures and videos are frequently posted to these sites keeping fans involved in the band and the music.

The band was started by bassist Pete Wentz and guitarist Joe Trohman in 2001 when both were just teenagers in Chicago. Patrick Stump, who originally auditioned to be the drummer, became the lead singer and rhythm guitarist. They were joined by a drummer and additional guitar player and the mini-LP “Fall Out Boy’s Evening Out with Your Girlfriend” was released in 2003.

After the LP, two of the members left the band. Drummer Andrew Hurley joined Wentz, Trohman and Stump to create the current line-up. The band relied heavily on their punk rock roots, but combined the sound with pop and emo influences. Their first full length record “Take This to Your Grave” was released in May 2003.

Their first major label release was in 2005 with “From Under the Cork Tree.” The single “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” shot up to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Fall Out Boy video for the song was honored with a 2005 MTV Video Music Award, which increased sales of the album. Fall Out Boy was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2006 Grammys.

“Infinity on High” was their major label follow up and was released in 2007. The album sold 260,000 copies in its first week and reached number one on the Billboard 200. The single “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” reached number two in the U.S. and the U.K. The musical style is this album distanced the band from their punk roots with its heavily pop influenced sound. Although some long time fans rejected the new direction the band was taking, the album had widespread appeal. “Thanks Fr the Mmrs”, “Carpel Tunnel of Love”, “Take Over the Breaks Lawyer” and “I’m Like a Lawyer” were all major hits due to the accompanying Fall Out Boy Videos.

Born and raised in Leytonstone, England, he actively participated in soccer and managed to receive the Bobby Charlton Soccer Skills award at the young age of 11. Five years later, when Beckham turned 16, he was designated as a trainee for United. After a year of training for the team, he was finally able to play as a substitute for Andrei Kanchelskis. That time when he substituted to play against Brighton marked his first game as a player for United. Beckham showed his talent even more by being able to win the 1992 FA Youth Cup and also managing to be a runner-up the following year. This convinced United to officially make him a professional player of their team. In January 1993, Beckham at age 18 played in his first ever game in the Champions League and put a significant contribution to his new team’ overall win.

The existence of his talent have been obvious for everyone but because there are still a sufficient number of veterans and more experienced players, Beckham was only able to make his full debut in 1995. Following his full debut, David Beckham continued to impress football fans and other players as well by winning the Cup and Charity Shield and the FA Premier League. This, he has done in a single year while he was playing as a right midfielder for United. This was also the same year when he had his first international game when he played against Moldova.

Beckham next feat was the 1998 World Cup. On the summer of this year, he was able to kick his first international goal playing against Colombia. This achievement may have been great but due to Beckham’s display of inappropriate behavior, he was regarded as a violent player. Because of a foul done to him, he kicked Simeone in the back of the leg. Though the kick was done lightly, his fans did not appreciate it.

Winning another FA Cup in 1999 and a Champions League title was not enough to retrieve the love of his English fans. Because of his continuous display of bad temper during games, Beckham received a lot of criticisms. He was only able to redeem his reputation when during the game against Argentina at the 2002 World Cup. Beckham successfully converted a penalty kick, making his home country the winner of the Cup. Because of this victory, his English fans finally managed to forgive his inappropriate behavior and regard him as the greatest athlete in their country.

Beckham’s great success in football is not only the reason why his popularity is so immense. His popularity also increased when he married famous Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham. Their lifestyle is the envy not only to most English folks but also to people around the world.

David Beckham is currently playing for L.A.’s Galaxy and would be continuing until the end of 2009 season. Rumors say that he will be playing for Milan after his contract with Galaxy ends.

Leonardo DiCaprio, born Leonardo Wilhelm Dicaprio, was born on November 11, 1974 in Los Angeles, California to parents Irmelin Inderberken, a former legal secretary, and to George DiCaprio, an underground comic artist as well as comic book distributor. Leo is best known for his choice of great roles which he has won several awards for. His most notable roles include his breakthrough performance in This Boy’s Life, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Titanic, Romeo + Juliet, Blood Diamond, The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Departed, and his most recent film, Revolutionary Road. He has been nominated in all the major award giving bodies such as BAFTA, SAG, and the Academy Awards.

Leonardo DiCaprio has always been known to be full of zest and spirit. He was named after the great Leonardo Da Vinci after he kicked his mother while still in her womb when she admired a Da Vinci painting in the Uffizi. Leo was an only child, and unfortunately his parents divorced when he was only a year old. He is half-German and half-Italian, both backgrounds influencing his upbringing greatly. He was also very much interested in visiting museums, and collecting baseball cards and comic books. He then went on to study at the Seeds Elementary School, Center for Enriched Studies as well as at the John Marshall High School in Los Angeles.

Back in school, he was always known to be more interested in entertaining his classmates than concentrating on his school work. By the age of five years old, Leo got his acting debut for the TV show Romper Room. Unfortunately, because of his uncontrollable behavior on set, he was let go from the show. Trying to get into acting at such a young age became hard for Leo as he got rejected from one audition to another. At the age of ten, he was even more discouraged when agents tried to change the way he looked as well as his name, wanting to change it to Lenny Williams. Finally, he was signed on when he was 14 years old and starred in obscure advertisements as well as in educational movies. After doing some guest appearances on several television shows, he finally got his big break when he got the role of Tobias Wolff in the film This Boy’s Life.

The rest as they say is history. Leonardo Di Caprio has always been known to be very picky with his roles, but he does pick those roles very well. He has turned down popular roles such as Robin in Batman Forever, but chose to do grittier and darker roles such as his characters in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Basketball Diaries. He proceeded to work on more electrifying roles and work with seasoned actors and critically-acclaimed directors in films such as Romeo + Juliet, Marvin’s Room, The Man in the Iron Mask, The Beach, Catch Me If You Can, Gangs of New York, and The Departed, among many others. He gained his superstar status when he took on the role of Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s Titanic which also starred Kate Winslet, with whom he would work with again ten years later in Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road.
